At least seven civilians were killed Friday in a suicide attack in a part of Cameroon where Boko Haram militants are active.

The French news agency AFP said the attack took place at a food stall in the town of Kolofata, in northern Cameroon.

The country cooperates with Chad, Benin, Nigeria and Niger on a joint military force dedicated to fighting Boko Haram.

The Islamist radical group is based in northern Nigeria but has carried out regular attacks in Cameroon since 2013.

On Wednesday, Cameroon's army received a U.S. shipment of combat vehicles, generators and other war equipment for the fight against Boko Haram. The U.S. deployed 300 American troops to the region two months ago.

Last year, the United States declared Boko Haram a foreign terrorist organization and placed a $7 million bounty on its leader, Abubakar Shekau.

Boko Haram has killed hundreds of people in Cameroon and more than 10,000 in Nigeria since launching its insurgency in 2009.
